Focus on Yourself this Fall

For many of us outdoorsy folk in Whistler, summer time is go, go, go. With an abundance of fun activities to choose from, we let chores build up, and we may let self-care fall to the backburner in favour of spending every moment in the radiant sunshine for the short time that it’s here. When it suddenly comes to an end, we don’t quite know what to do with ourselves, as we are encouraged by rainy and cold weather to retreat indoors.

I have recently come to realize, through some inspiring yoga classes, that this can be the perfect time to check in with yourself, and focus a little more on your own well-being. There is nothing wrong with slowing down, and creating new habits in your life. For me, this has taken form in finally beginning to read some books I was unable to make time for all summer, I have begun the practice of meditation, and I have been able to go to many more yoga classes. I have started to set daily intentions, as well as intentions for the winter time.

In this way, the fall has become an inspiring and mindful time rather than a time of frustration, which is how I initially felt when summer abruptly ended.

Walking outside in nature is a great way to practice mindfulness and truly appreciate this season. Everywhere you look, the leaves on the trees are turning the most gorgeous array of oranges, reds and yellows. Beneath the canopy, you will notice that the forests are getting nourished as they receive the rain. The moss is turning a vibrant shade of green and the rocks and roots are glistening.

I encourage you to embrace autumn wholeheartedly, and all that it has to offer. It is a time to slow right down and to look inwards. It is a time to appreciate the transformation of nature, and to make your own transformations by creating new habits and setting intentions. And of course, it is a time to consume as much pumpkin spice as physically possible!
